I have now been smoke free for 7.5 months. Got the other foot done too! No more bunions! YAY!!! Things are looking up.

Kelly finished her last day at the Paul Mitchell School on Saturday. Now she will be getting ready to take her state boards, probably sometime in January. Way to go Kelly! She is now living with her boyfriend Kenny. Kenny is studying to be an electrical engineer. He's on the 10 year plan. He works as a laser light technician, doing laser light shows for parties. He has even done parties for Hollywood celebrities.

Tell me about the bunion surgery, I need this done and am afraid--do you have any pins or screws?

They put pins in my toes, but it was no big deal. That's the beauty of it, you don't need a cast. I walked out of the hospital the same afternoon with a boot. I never had to take pain medication, it was just inconvenient having to keep my foot elevated a lot for a few days. Nothing to fear, that's why I had the other one done the very next year.

I find it hard to believe you had no pain whatsoever. I have to do this surgery, but have been putting it off. Can you run/walk okay with no problem now?

The doctor said the same thing, but I didn't event take Tylenol. There was swelling and some pressure from the boot, but it was not painful.

Oh yes, I can walk and run even better than I could before. It takes about 9 months for everything to heal to the point where there are no twinges at all anymore. When I say I had no pain, I mean when I was not walking. For a few months after the surgery, it will be a little painful while walking, but no big deal. The doctor said that some people have no pain, and some have a lot of pain. One woman had no pain with the left foot, but then had incredible pain when he did her right foot. Everyone is different.

By the way suedafred - may I ask how old you are? I am 47. Do you know the name of the procedure the doctor did on you. I should do this surgery (my feet look like your right foot before surgery) - but am afraid. I have been having pain in the ball of my foot. Thanks for the help. I guess I just need someone to tell me I will be alright. Never had surgery before! P.S) I am from upstate New York - Rome - I have heard of your brother the musician-Jon! Small world, isn't it?

I am 54 years old. He did a Distal-L Osteotomy, and a fine job at that! Don't be chicken anymore. It's like a walk in the park. No big deal. But I suggest doing it during warm weather so you don't get cold sitting around, and so you don't have to worry about slipping on snow and ice with that boot or the post surgical shoe.

P.S. anonymous, you should go and see Jon play sometime, he's very good!

Do the screws or pins that are in your toes bother you at all?

No, I don't even know exactly where they are. I can't feel them.

Say did your bunions hurt before surgery or was your big toe just leaning toward the second toe? Patty from Rome, New York.

On my left foot, the bunion was extremely sensitive, and I was unable to wear any shoes at all just prior to surgery. My right foot was not sore, however. It only looked deformed. The soreness on the left foot was what made me decide that I had to do it right away. I'm sure glad I did. There was nothing to be afraid of.

Thanks, I am scheduled for this surgery April 4. The doctor is using screws as well. He says I will just be in a surgical shoe. Hope it goes well.

No scar tissue. I could wear heels if I wanted to, but I'm not a heel wearing kind of person.
